Hills Golf Course

Piper Hills Golf Course offers golf enthusiasts a 9-hole regulation
length public golf course with a driving range in Plainview,
Minnesota. This short layout rewards good shots. Adult and
Junion Golf Leagues have events scheduled throughout the season.
Individual lessons are available from Kirk Thompson, golf
course staffperson. A new Pro-shop full service bar is located
in the Pro-Shop. Green fees range from $20 to $25. For more

Plainview
Aquatic Center
Set to reopen this spring, the Plainview Swimming Pool is
being transformed into an Aquatic Center. The $1 million
renovation project was approved by voters in 2009. When the
center reopens, it will be available to the public everyday
from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. from
June through August. The center is available for private birthday
parties, family groups, organizations, company parties and
other activities. To rent the center, call 534-2701 a minimum
of one week before your event. For information about swimming
lessons and other community center activities, check the city's
website.
Other
recreation offerings within Plainview
Plainvew
Public Works maintains six public parks throughout the city,
which have "green space" meeting places, play equipment,
lighted baseball diamonds, tennis courts, an ice skating rink
and warming house and park shelters. A walking trail is also
located in the Eckstein Field park complex. Work continues
on on the Great
River Ridge Trail, which ends at Trailhead Park in Plainview.
To date, twelve miles of the northern section of the trail
have been completed taking cyclists to Hwy. 14 to the south..
When the entire trail is finished, there will be a Whitewater
and Carley State Park loop, and the entire northern trail
will connect to the Chester Woods and Root River trail systems.
Pool leagues play at the Plainview Municipal Liquor Store

Hassler Theater

The 223-seat Jon Hassler Theater in Plainview brings professional
productions to its stage year-round. The theater is located
in the Rural America Arts Center, a former International Harvester
implement dealership. The renovated 1940s building is also
home to the Rural
America Writers' Center and the Rural America Center for
the Humanities and Community. The Writers' Center offers workshops
for aspiring playwrights and writers of prose and poetry.
The Center for the Humanities and Community sponsors Up
for Discussion, a monthly open forum on topics of interest
to the community. All are affiliates of the Rural America
Arts Partnership, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. And
if you have time to browse, Word
and Afterwords Books, which is located in the Jon Hassler
Theater has over 4,000 new and used books and WiFi... Open
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. most weekends.
Plainview
History Center

The Plainview Area History Center is an excellent place to
research family history and learn about life in Plainview
in days-gone-by. It is located in the former Plainview Methodist
Church, a long-standing landmark in the Plainview community.
The History Center is a non-profit organization and affiliate
of the Rural America Arts Partnership. Its doors opened in
May 1999; the J.R. Watkins house was purchased in 2008. Both
sites are open to the public on Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
Special tours can be arranged by calling the Center at (507)
534-4173 during hours or Ron Manzow at (507) 534-2670. Yearly
memberships are $12/individual and $24/family.
